How it works

From wall dimensions to concrete volume

The calculator multiplies each wall’s length, height, and thickness, applies the number of identical walls, and then adds your selected waste allowance.

Rectangular wall formula

Use compatible units and multiply length by height by thickness. Quantity multiplies the volume of one wall.

Volume per wall = length × height × thickness

Total = volume per wall × quantity × (1 + waste percentage ÷ 100)

Worked example: four identical walls

This arithmetic example uses four 10 ft × 8 ft × 8 in walls with 10% waste. These dimensions are not a structural recommendation.

  1. Volume per wall53.33 ft³
  2. Before waste213.33 ft³
  3. 10% waste21.33 ft³
  4. Total concrete234.67 ft³ ≈ 8.69 yd³

Multiple identical walls

Length, height, and thickness describe each wall. Quantity multiplies that individual volume. Calculate walls with different dimensions separately.

Waste allowance

Waste is shown separately and added after the combined base volume. Enter the allowance appropriate for your project conditions.

Cubic feet, cubic yards, and cubic meters

US results emphasize cubic yards and retain cubic-foot audit values. Metric results use cubic meters. Switching systems preserves the same physical wall.

Doors, windows, and other openings

This version treats every wall as a solid rectangle. It does not subtract doors, windows, service penetrations, recesses, or other openings.

Estimate limitations

This calculator estimates concrete volume from dimensions you provide. It does not determine wall thickness, structural capacity, reinforcement, retaining-wall design, lateral pressure, wind or seismic resistance, foundations, concrete strength, waterproofing, excavation safety, code compliance, or engineering suitability.

Use project plans, local requirements, and qualified professional guidance where required.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate concrete for a wall?
Multiply wall length by height by thickness, then apply quantity and waste.
Can I calculate several identical walls?
Yes. Enter one wall’s dimensions and the number of identical walls.
Does this calculator subtract doors or windows?
No. This version calculates each wall as a solid rectangle without subtracting openings.
Does it determine the correct wall thickness?
No. You supply the thickness; the calculator estimates volume only.
Should I include waste?
Use the allowance appropriate to your project. The calculator does not prescribe a universal percentage.
Why is the result shown in cubic yards?
Cubic yards are common in US concrete workflows; supporting cubic-foot values remain visible.
Can it calculate concrete bags?
Use the Concrete Bag Calculator with this volume and the product’s listed yield.
Does it account for rebar?
No. It calculates the full solid wall volume without subtracting reinforcement or other displacement.
